Staffordshire Stop Smoking Service Newsletter COVID-19 UPDATE

Hints and Tips for Smoking Cessation Pharmacies

CHL have put together the following hints & tips in helping you to provide telephone consultations:

  • Clients should be given an appointment date & time, just as they would if they were coming into the pharmacy
  • Appointments should be weekly for the first 4 weeks, then bi-weekly for the remainder of the service (where possible)
  • As there is currently no CO monitoring, clients are asked to be honest with their self-reported status (Ask how they have got on since you last spoke, and if they have adhered to the not a puff rule)
  • Consider if the technology used is appropriate/suitable for the service user
  • Summarise regularly to ensure communication has not been lost, particularly during any loss ofsignal or interruption
  • Ensure client privacy and confidentiality is maintained, and that the service user is aware thatinformation is being recorded and they have given their consent
  • NRT can either be posted out, delivered or collected from the pharmacy – Please ensure if beingdelivered or collected that social distance measures are in place. If being posted a trackable service

should be used, in case of non-arrival of products

  • Behavioural support apps are available –
