How to Spot a Forged Prescription

North Staffs CCG have put a document together highlighting the key points to recognising a forged prescription
WHAT IS A FORGED OR FRAUDULENT PRESCRIPTION?
A forged or fraudulent prescription can be a genuine prescription form which:
- Has been stolen
- Has been altered by someone other than an authorised prescriber (For example to increase the quantity or dose, or add additional items)
- Is not signed by an authorised prescriber or it could be a fake prescription form.
Key Points of what to do if you suspect a forged prescription:
- Do not dispense
- Stall for time
- Check with prescriber
- Call the police
- Tell NHS England
- Tell NHS Counter-fraud
- Keep a record
- Claim rewards
